In the lesson on Tuesday 19th, we continued working with Zotero. Again, we were unable to use the wifi in the room, which only allowed us to listen to Mr.Paterson explain about further details from the day before, and thing to be careful when we read and trust the source which we do not know where it came from.
Regarding Zotero, we looked at how we should reference the online edition of the newspaper sites. Since the automatic reference would mention it is a blog post or some other type of resource, we should set it as a webpage, and add in the necessary information manually. The other type of reference we had learned was to reference interviews. In this case, we should first select the type of source (interview), create the entry for it and add in the information manually. I thought this is a useful function, since most of the time when we interview someone, we do not know the format to reference it in. Zotero makes our work efficient in every way. Mr.Paterson also mentioned about the importance of reference. It was to prove that you have the right thought according to the source you have used. By listening to this, I strongly felt the need to find high-quality, trustworthy information.
About the source we do not know the reference in, the key term used here was called "3Bs". It is again the law of 3! This time, the 'B' stood for
1. Background
2. Biography (of the author)
3. Bias
The "background" is about the information in the content. By reading the content, we can get the clue to the background, of how this source was created. Biography of the author should also be researched since the content of any field always includes a person's insight into their experience. This also creates the "bias" towards the information. I was surprised about this however I also agreed since there is no one on this earth who does not have a bias.
When Mr.Paterson told about the approach we should make whether it is a detective or lawyer approach, the explanation was very easy for us to understand. I thought I write better in lawyer one since I like writing pieces that include emotions or feelings.
Today's lesson again contained a lot of information I had never known about, but also, I was able to find out about the style I may be better in approach.
