Final reflection post for semester 1

As this term’s final assessment, we were given a project to create a website and to write a report that is focused on the media bias. I found this assessment quite difficult to complete, as there were my much information out on the internet. This blog post will be my reflection for the assignment we were given, and what we had learned through semester 1.

Regarding the project, there were a number of thing a that went well. For example, we were able to decide up the work equally in order to get everything done to the deadline. By experiencing this, I reassured the importance of team communication and planning skills in a collaborative assessment. For our website, I was delighted when Mr. Paterson said my idea of putting the school’s gate picture onto the ‘about’ page was a nice one. As I had read the criteria quite carefully, in order to include what is required, our team weren’t missing much things. Having mentioned that I found this task difficult, that is my honest feeling but I personally felt a big sense of accomplishment after we had submitted the assignment.

However, there were number of points we could have done swiftly or, can impove if we were to do the complete same assessment again. As a group, we could have made sure that everything matches in between us (like the form of website), so that it looks more organized and official. This was one of the things Mr. Paterson has mentioned. For my essay, I took quite a bit of time in deciding my topic. For this reason, I had to force myself to do most of the work on 3-4days before the deadline. I should have managed my time more, but could have done this if the due date was clear from the start, when we were introduced to this assignment.

Throughout the term, I had learned so many things I didn’t know before, or  things I knew but the extensions I didn’t know. If I try listing them all, it’ll take forever, so I will be writing based on ‘technology’ and ‘media’.  For technology example, very simple things, like embedding the link on google doc.s, editing the document through comments, and creating websites. Although I has been using it for quite a long time now, it was the first time for me to learn about it. I found them very useful, that I will be able to apply them in my work. The biggest thing I leant was the spoiled fact behind every news media. By looking into details of how media bias had been created, it frustrated and disappointed me, as it felt like I was just put into the reality of human greed, where they would do anything for money no matter how it is against the human morality. On in the future, I surely cannot live without media that surrounds me everyday. However, what I can do against those media bias is, to not believe everything right away. I could at least compare a mainstream’s and non mainstream to get the accurate image of the stories.

Overall, there were so many first-time attempts. I was able to learn from this, to improve in the future. I am hoping to learn much more in the second semester.

Points for improvement;
bigger logo
bigger window
-> match it in the website (communicate in the team)
